Of my 25 years in the Engineering/Construction Industries, I spent the first 7 in a client role with Shell International, initiating and supervising contract design and construction on a variety of petrochemical projects, in both the UK and overseas. Two of these 7 years were spent in Shell's Central Offices in The Hague.
The remainder of my practical construction career was in the contractor role, initially with Babcock International, then with Blue Circle Industries, and concluding with Taylor Woodrow Construction.
During the Babcock phase I was responsible for project management of power generation projects in Southern Africa. I then spent 5 years Blue Circle, contracting in a wide variety of process and other fields. Later I returned to the Babcock Group, and was engaged in contracting in the UK power generation, materials handling, water processing and food industries.
With Taylor Woodrow, my activities were broadly the same as with Babcock, but, as one might expect, also included heavy involvement in M & E installations in many Civil and Building projects, including offshore platforms.
